How Sentis Monetise their Data

Giving their clients powerful safety insights and a seamless experience

Sentis is a workplace safety consultancy with clients in high-risk industries all over the world. Instead of using a traditional rule and procedure-based approach, they tap into people's psychology to help them make safer choices. To do this, they use extensive data collection and visualisation to measure organisations' safety culture.

"We now have the confidence to know we can deliver on our promises."

Using Tableau to turn data into stories

Sentis needed to present their data in a way that was easily digestible and useful to their clients, and need the right technical knowledge to do this effectively.

Sentis used Tableau's dashboards to get their data telling powerful stories, but needed specialist expertise to tap into the platforms full potential. They partnered with DataSpark to set up the right systems, get the right support and be guided by the right advice for future planning.

Chief Digital officer Libby O'Brien tells their story.

"Tableau is built really well and does its job properly, but like with any software, if you don't have the right architecture in place it just won't work the way you want it to."

Sentis originally used Tableau through another contractor before managing it internally, but quickly discovered that without a knowledgeable team around them, it was difficult to create and manage the tools they needed.

"We originally tried a learn by doing approach and discovered some painful lessons. The whole thing felt hard to work with and I was quite nervous around the fundamental things like data integrity. We often struggled with project builds, which impacted our ability to meet client deadlines."

Libby knew they needed expert help and was introduced to Dataspark. "I knew there was a reasonable amount of auditing and restructuring to be done and we needed a knowledgeable person to do it. Once we invested in DataSpark's Virtual Data Team, all these things we struggled with just weren't an issue anymore."

A trusted partner in DataSpark

DataSpark ensured Sentis had a seamless experience with Tableau by setting up the right architecture, supporting them through project builds, and helping them understand how Tableau fits into their roadmap for future analytics.

"DataSpark took the pain away by helping us get the right systems in place. They were really pragmatic in their approach and great at balancing our cost and requirement. They have been incredibly responsive, and so patient and willing to help. It's great to have the assurance that if something does go wrong, my team can pick up the phone and speak to an expert without any rigmarole."

"Now that they have helped us put the right structure in place, we never miss a timeline and if anything we deliver early. We now have the confidence to know we can deliver on our promises."

DataSpark is also helping Sentis feel confident about meeting future requirements.

"We have lots of things on our roadmap that we want to do in the future. Having a good partner like DataSpark gives me the confidence that Tableau's product ecosystem will allow us to do those things"

Giving clients powerful safety insights and a seamless experience

The envision of Sentis was to develop a portable environment where their clients can experience and interact with data visualisation. Furthermore, the intention was also to provide a product that looked and felt like their own. The Tableau embedded platform turned that vision into a reality by building white-labeled dashboards with storytelling data that can be interacted with in a useful way.

Joining the DataSpark Virtual Team saved Sentis 40-50 hours per month and enabled them to provide a consistently seamless client experience. They were able to create a tool they could replicate from project to project. "The idea with Tableau is that we could set up dashboards and a framework because the process that we want for our clients is very similar most of the time."

"Tableau's Dashboards give clients a beautiful and seamless way to view their data, but we also want to sell an incredible client experience without technology being a barrier and that's what DataSpark enabled us to do."
